I had the pleasure of meeting this beautiful woman today. I went back to the Museum of the Holocaust in West Hollywood to hear her tell her story. Her name is Regina Hirsch and she is a holocaust survivor. I obsess over Holocaust stories a lot because I think it’s incredible that 11 million people were murdered and no one cared. No one stood up for them. The things that were done to them are so outrageous and inhumane it doesn’t even seem real. But of course it was real, and the few who survived endured more pain than I could ever imagine. Genocide is a scar on the face of humanity, and the fact that it has happened not only to Jews but to many other groups of people is proof that there is still work to be done. I think everyone should take some time to go and hear a Holocaust survivor speak. This is something that you will not be able to do anymore soon enough as they are all getting very old and will die soon. They’re stories have to live on though, because if they are forgotten history can repeat itself as it often does. Hate and Intolerance are dangerous forces and should be fought with Awareness and Love. In the end we are all the same and if history repeats itself, I know I will not sit blindly as it happens.
